On March 22, 2017, general news and technology-focused journalists took a full-day trip from Warsaw to participate in a study visit at the Poznań headquarters of the the F-Secure’s special cyber-security unit, F-Secure CSS.
The Polish branch of F-Secure Cyber Security Services is an advanced group developing state-of-the-art solutions to counteract cyber-attacks. They consult on cyber-security and conduct pen tests, i.e. controlled attacks designed to improve security measures at a company or an institution.
F-Secure experts demonstrated the most advanced tools for collecting intelligence, prevention and counteracting cyber-attacks, including Threats Intelligence tools, a tool analyzing Twitter for any disclosed threats, a network of honeypots (servers which pretend to be an easy target to attract attacks and monitoring their progress), and F-Secure Radar, a tool pen testers use daily. It can be described as a “hacker in a box”. It presents a list of vulnerabilities, which could potentially allow hacking a system.
Journalists also got a chance to have an insider look at operations of the Rapid Detection Center – a complex solution similar to an alarm system in a building, based on cooperation between a human and a machine. The RDC unit supervises any events in real time (24/7).
Leszek Tasiemski, leader of the CSS unit, shared some war stories related to pentesting. Journalists also watched a movie, for which a script was developed based on F-Secure’s pentesting history over the last few years in a few different countries: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0_ZfuMlNJk8
